This course includes training to operate and maintain four-wheel drive vehicles, involving identifying terms and techniques, planning for minimal environmental impact, using the features to drive in a variety of terrain types, recovery and performing maintenance and minor repairs.

Introduction:

Target Audience:

This course is intended for any person who is required to undertake operating and maintaining a four wheel drive vehicle as part of their duties.

This unit may also be appropriate for any person working in an operational role at work sites within civil construction, coal mining, drilling, extractive industries and metalliferous industries.

Pre-requisite: The participant must have a current and valid drivers licence to perform the practical activities and assessment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Know and understand relevant workplace health and safety legislation, standards and codes of practice.
  • Identification of four-wheel drive specific terms, terminology and techniques.
  • Planning for minimal environmental impact.
  • Performing pre-departure checks.
  • Use four-wheel drive.
  • Performing maintenance and minor repairs on four-wheel drive vehicles.

Learning Methods:

Delivery option 1: 1-2 day face-to-face training sessions and final assessment. Delivery length may vary dependent on client needs.
 
Delivery option 2: Initial enrolment, induction and logbook issue to learn while operating under the supervision of an experienced operator, and final assessment. Onsite delivery available.
