TLILIC0012 Licence to operate vehicle loading crane (capacity 10 metre tonnes and above)


This course includes training to operate a vehicle loading crane with a capacity of 10 metre tonnes or more, mounted on a vehicle for the purpose of loading and unloading such a vehicle, including the application of load estimation and slinging techniques to move a load.


Course Fees:
Upon enrolment, participants (or their employer) will be invoiced the course fees.  Course fees may be paid upon enrolment, and must be finalised prior to course commencement, unless an account is established with alternative payment arrangements.
Where course fees are greater than $1,500.00, no more than $1,200.00 is due prior to course commencement.  The balance is due upon completion of training, unless an account is established with alternative payment arrangements.

Target Audience:

This courses is intended for any person who is required to operate a vehicle mounted lifting device above 10 tonne capacity.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify and understand the relevant workplace health and safety legislation, standards and codes of practice.
  • Use and interpret the crane manufacturer's specifications and data, including load charts.
  • Use the hierarchy of controls to identify potential hazards and implement control measures.
  • Calculate the weight of the load.
  • Carry out pre and post start checks on the crane and check logbook for compliance.
  • Identify any damage and defects, if found, report and record.
  • Test safety devices.
  • Check ground suitability and planned route.
  • Drive the crane to the work location and position the crane.
  • Attach the lifting equipment and transfer large loads.
  • Select and use appropriate lifting equipment for the load and appropriate slinging techniques.
  • Use and follow appropriate communication signals.
  • Operate the crane, including all functions to their maximum extension.
  • Respond to unsafe situations.

Learning Methods:

Delivery option 1: 5-day face-to-face training sessions and final assessment. Delivery length may vary dependent on client needs.
Delivery option 2: Initial enrolment, induction and logbook issue to learn while operating under the supervision of a licenced operator at your workplace, and final assessment. Onsite delivery available. (Enquire below for more details about option 2)

Successful completion of the unit of competency requires sufficient evidence of onsite or face-to-face training and a competent result for the closed-book knowledge assessments and practical assessment.
