This course includes training to operate a gantry or overhead crane in the Resources and Infrastructure Industries.

Introduction:

Target Audience:

This course is intended for any person who works within civil construction, mining sites, and drilling, extractive industries and is required to operate gantry or overhead crane.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Access, interpret and apply crane operation documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant.
  • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements.
  • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures.
  • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities.
  • Coordinate activities with others prior to commencement and throughout operations.
  • Prepare load for lift in accordance with crane limitations and rigging requirements.
  • Perform pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures.
  • Confirm the work area hazards are removed or controlled prior to commencing the lift.
  • Interpret signals in accordance with AS2550.
  • Operate controls to lift, transfer and lower loads.
  • Monitor lift operations and ensure compliance.
  • Inspect crane for faults.
  • Perform routine operational servicing, lubrication and housekeeping tasks.
  • Process written records.

Learning Methods:

Delivery option 1: 1-day face-to-face training sessions and final assessment. Delivery length may vary dependent on client needs.

Delivery option 2: Initial enrolment, induction and logbook issue to learn while operating under the supervision of an experienced operator at your workplace, and final assessment. Onsite delivery available. (Enquire below for more details about option 2)

Successful completion of the unit of competency requires sufficient evidence of onsite or face-to-face training and a competent result for the final assessment.

Program Benefits:

  • Participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment and Competency Card upon successful completion of the unit of competency.
