This course specifices the functions required to competently perform Roller operations.

Introduction:

Target Audience:

This course is intended for any person who is required to undertake roller operations as part of their duties or any person working in mobile plant operator roles at work sites within Civil Construction.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Know and understand relevant workplace health and safety legislation, standards and codes of practice
  • Apply site and equipment safety requirements including safe operating in all terrains.
  • Interpret drawings and sketches, using civil construction terminology.
  • Apply attachment and roller operating techniques including methods of changing machine attachments, levelling techniques, roller/compacting appropriate for the task.
  • Understand basic principles of soil technology, soil compaction, road construction, earthworks and drainage.
  • Calculate basic earthworks calculations and understand the safety data sheet and material handling methods.
  • Understand roller types, their characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations.
  • Operate, maintain and understand basic diagnostics and shutdown procedures.
  • Follow legislative, organisation and site requirements/procedures including traffic control management and environmental requirements.
  • Understand and follow JSA’s/Safe work method statements.
