RIIMPO315D Conduct tractor operations


This course specifies the functions required to competently perform Tractor Operations.


Target Audience:

This course is intended for any person who is required to undertake tractor operations as part of their duties or any person working in mobile plant operator roles at work sites within Civil Construction.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Know and understand relevant workplace health and safety legislation, standards and codes of practice
  • Carry out tractor and equipment pre-operational checks
  • Obtain, interpret and clarify the work required before starting the job
  • Locate and identify all tractor control systems
  • Start and stop a tractor using the correct safety procedures
  • Drive a tractor demonstrating safe clutch, brake and throttle control
  • Hitch and unhitch 3 point linkage and drawbar equipment using correct safety procedures
  • Select correct attachment for the task
  • Change and attach ancillary attachment and safely manoeuvre a tractor with attached equipment (bucket, plough, slasher) in and around obstacles
  • Connect and disconnect external hydraulics connections in a safe and appropriate manner
  • Safely connect and disconnect PTO driven equipment to the tractor
  • Demonstrate competency in operation of equipment attached to the 3 point linkage, external hydraulics, PTO and tractor drawbar
  • Safely park and carry out regular maintenance
  • Follow JSA’s/Safe work method statements, operate safely in all terrains
