This course provides training in controlling traffic with a stop-slow bat for a range of road conditions.

Introduction:

Participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment upon successful completion of the unit of competency.

 Successful participants, upon application approval to the Department of Queensland Transport and Main Roads (TMR), will be issued with a Traffic Controller Industry Authority Card valid for three (3) years
NB. All applicants for Traffic Controller accreditation are subject to offence history, licence history and other checks.

Target Audience:

This course is intended for any person who is required to undertake Control of Traffic on a road way as part of their duties.

Pre-requisite Requirements:  This course has a pre-requisite requirement.  This requirement may be met by holding a Work Safely in the Construction Industry White Card, or equivalent, and having held a driving licence within the last five years.
 
This course has a work placement requirement for participants to complete 20 hours of Traffic Control duties with a Registered Traffic Management Company:
  • Where an employer is an approved TM company, participants can complete their work placement requirements in their own workplace.  Please complete a Traffic Control Agreement confirming suitable supervision can be provided, and return to SWQ Training at least 5 days prior to course commencement.
  • If a course participant is not able to complete their work placement with an employer, they should contact SWQ Training prior to enrolling.  SWQ Training will source suitable placement with a local provider before confirming their enrolment in the course.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Control traffic in road way conditions
  • Apply traffic management plans and procedures
  • Position appropriate traffic control signage, devices and barricades
  • Communicate using radio operations, hand signals, devices and signage
  • Identify the effects of travel speed and vehicle mass stopping distances
  • Understand timely control of traffic with a stop-slow bat that safely, effectively and efficiently meets the required outcomes

Learning Methods:

Delivery step 1:  1-day face-to-face theory & practical training, and theory assessment

Delivery step 2:  20 hours of workplace based training and logbook completion within three (3) months

Delivery step 3:  1-day workplace based assessment

Successful completion of the skill set requires completion of theory and practical training, sufficient evidence of workplace based application (completion of logbook) and competent result for the final workplace assessment.
