HSR

The course is intended to assist newly elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) to understand their roles and functions under the WHS legislation influencing health and safety outcomes in their workplace.

Introduction:

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to apply the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil their role as HSRs, including:
  • Facilitating communication and consultation and provide a crucial link between employers and employees
  • Making a real difference in achieving better health and safety outcomes:
    • Reducing costs
    • Reducing risks
    • Lowering employee absence and turnover rates
    • Reducing accidents
    • Lessening threat of legal action
    • Improving standings among suppliers and partners
Participants will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance upon successful completion of the course requirements.

This course is recognised in the state of Queensland.

Target Audience:

This course is intended for newly Elected Health and Safety Representatives.  From 1 February 2019, all elected HSRs are required under the relevant approved course within three (3) months of being elected.  The requirement of a health and safety representative (HSR) to undertake a course of training is outlined in the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act).

Entry Requirements:  Participants must provide three (3) forms of ID on the first day of training.

  • Understanding the Work Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice
  • Identify key parties and their legislative obligations and duties
  • Role of the Health and Safety Representative
  • Workplace Inspections
  • Hazard Management
  • Accident Investigation
  • Consultation, Communication and Participation
  • Health and Safety Committees
  • Issue Resolution, Provisional Improvement Notices and Cease Work Requirements

Learning Methods:

Delivery option 1:  5-day face-to-face training sessions, including evaluation activities.
Delivery option 2:  3-day face-to-face training sessions, followed by 2-day face-to-face training sessions, including evaluation activities.

Successful completion of the course requires completion of all training requirements and successful completion of the knowledge evaluation.  Delivery length may vary dependent on client needs.
